Analyses on grassland carrying capacity and livestockfeeds balance in Xilinhot

  • Xilinhot City, the typical north part of China, was selected as the research area to simulate the body weight variation of Ujimqin sheep under zero supplementation and impact of climate factor on body weight with GRAZFEED model, meanwhile, the grassland carrying capacity and livestockfeeds balance were analyzed. The results showed that the daily body weight gain was around 8.7 g from July to September; the body condition was poor in other months and the supplementation was necessary. Climate was also an important factor affecting production of Ujimqin sheep. In April and October, the temperature is low and the additional energy is needed to maintain normal physiological activities. Under zero supplementation condition, overgrazing was common in the most areas. So, the animal population should be reduced to maintain the balance between livestock and feeds.
