Adaptability evaluation of 10 forage oat varieties in Chifeng semiarid area

  • Our study aimed to identify the oat (Avena sative) varieties that are suitable for Chifeng, which is a semiarid area. We planted 10 oat varieties in a random block design at the National Forage Industry System Experimental Station in Chifeng. We harvested the oat plants at the milk-ripening stage. We analyzed the agronomic traits and quality index of these 10 oat varieties and compared their growth performance and forage yield, and quality through grey correlation degree analysis. The following results were obtained: 1) Among the 10 Oat varieties in Chifeng region of Inner Mongolia, the ranges of plant height, fresh grass yield, and hay yield were 61.10~121.76 cm, 15 757.87~37 685.50 kg·ha−1, and 3 443.67~6 425.91 kg·ha−1, ‘Tianyan No.1’ had the highest yield of fresh grass, and‘Baiyan No.3’had the highest yield of hay. 2) The ranges of contents of crude protein, Neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber among the different varieties were 11.75%~15.45%, 50.69%~53.42%, and 26.82%~32.65%, ‘Qinghai Sweet oat’ and ‘Tianyan No.1’ meet the special grade hay standard. respectively. The grey relational analysis results showed that ‘Qinghai Sweet oat’ and ‘Tianyan No.1’ are suitable for planting and popularization in the Chifeng area.
