Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of the SRS gene family in Panicum miliaceum

  • The plant-specific SHI-related sequence (SRS) family of transcription factors plays a vital role in growth regulation, plant development, phytohormone biosynthesis, and stress response. Here, we studied the SRS gene family (PmSRS) of Panicum miliaceum, analyzed the structure and function of PmSRS using bioinformatics methods, and analyzed the gene expression levels of SRS in different tissues and maturation stages of broomcorn millet using transcriptome data. A total of 13 PmSRSs were identified and classified into six subfamilies based on phylogenetic relationships analysis, and PmSRS members in the same subfamily contained similar gene structures and motif compositions. Thirty-nine cis-acting elements related to plant growth and development, phytohormones, stress and light response were found to be present in the promoter region of PmSRS. In addition, PmSRS5 and PmSRS6 may play major roles during the growth period of broomcorn millet. This study provides comprehensive information on the SRS gene family in broomcorn millet, which helps to study the function of SRS genes and provides a theoretical basis for molecular improvement of broomcorn millet.
